Edmond and Lilley Win Weekly SEC Awards

by Mike Scholze

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the third week in a row, the Kentucky volleyball team took home at least one Southeastern Conference honor. Sophomore Leah Edmond won her first SEC Player of the Week and second Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season, while freshman Madison Lilley garnered her fourth Setter of the Week award.

Edmond is no stranger to the Player of the Week award as she received the honor twice last season. The Lexington, Kentucky, native had 36 kills last weekend, including 25 in the four set win over Auburn on Sunday. Her 25 terminations were one shy of her career best and tied her best league performance of her career. Edmond averaged 4.50 kills per frame, higher than her season average of 4.29, which was No. 31 in the nation heading into the weekend.

Edmond was stellar on defense as well. She recorded her fourth double-double of the season and 12th of her career after adding 17 digs to her 11 kills against Alabama. She ended up recording 25 scoops over the two matches and averaged 3.12 per frame, more than a dig higher than her season average of 2.03.

On Friday, Lilley posted 54 assists and helped the Cats hit .278 with 64 kills. She added 11 digs and two kills, two blocks and an ace.  On Sunday, She added 50 more helpers and 12 scoops, while directing UK to hit above .300 for the ninth time this season. She was a threat as well, adding four kills on eight attempts.

Kentucky will be back in action on Wednesday and Sunday for two important SEC matches. The Wildcats will face Texas A&M on Wednesday at 8 p.m. inside Memorial Coliseum and will then head to Florida to take on the Gators on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both matches will air live on the SEC Network.
