Kentucky Men’s Soccer Earns Coaches Team Academic Award
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky Men’s Soccer Program picked up the Team Academic Award from the United Soccer Coaches (formerly National Soccer Coaches Association of America) for the 2016-17 academic year on Thursday.
A total of 813 collegiate teams (282 men, 531 women) earned the Team Academic Award, including 195 schools who had both their men’s and women’s programs among the recipients. Kentucky was one of the 195 universities with the men’s and women’s programs among the recipients.
College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point of average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster.
UK had a 3.12 GPA for the 2016-17 academic year.
The UK men’s soccer program earned the honor for the seventh time ever, and fourth time in head coach Johan Cedergren’s tenure.
Kentucky had 21 members of the Conference USA honor roll – which recognizes students with a cumulative GPA better than 3.0 for the 2016-17 academic year corresponding to the 2016 season.
Five Wildcats earned the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal for the 2016-17 year. Medals were given to those C-USA student-athletes have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or better.
Additionally, Charlie Reymann who finished his senior year in the 2016 season, was the Conference USA Men’s Soccer winner for the 2016-17 Scholar Athlete Award.
No. 20/21 Kentucky will welcome the South Carolina Gamecocks to The Bell on Sunday for the annual de facto Southeastern Conference Men’s Soccer Championship.
