Former Cat Blakefield Wins National Capital Open
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Former Kentucky men’s golfer Mark Blakefield picked up his first PGA Mackenzie Tour (Canada) win on Sunday after a 20-under-par performance on the weekend at the National Capital Open in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
A member of the 2005 Southeastern Conference Championship team and All-SEC second team, Blakefield seemed more than comfortable after firing four-under par rounds – or better – during each round of the event.
The Maysville, Kentucky, native’s win gave him his third top-25 finish of the season. During his final round, Blakefield strung along five-consecutive birdies to close out the front nine before he added three more on the back nine to ultimately shoot a six-under-par 65, which was his second of the week.
