Swimmers to Host Sun Shall Shine Spring Intrasquad Meet April 21

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky swimming and diving will host the second annual Sun Shall Shine spring intrasquad meet April 21, honoring those who have courageously battled cancer. The swimming only event will begin at 3 p.m.
Last season, Kentucky’s Blue-White meet was renamed the Sun Shall Shine meet in honor of Shane Winstead, the mother of current Kentucky freshman Madison Winstead. After Shane was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer, Madison was granted a waiver by the NCAA to compete in the meet as a high school senior so her mother could watch as she donned a Kentucky cap for the first time. After fighting cancer for nearly two years, Shane passed away on Sept. 11.
“We want to honor the Winstead family and all the other members of our team that have been affected by cancer,” head coach Lars Jorgensen said. “We want to do our small part to raise awareness in the Lexington community and we’re excited about participating.”
Similar to last year’s scrimmage, the Wildcats will again compete against each other in long-course meter races rather than the traditional collegiate style short-course yards format.
Fans can park in Parking Structures No. 1 and 7, which are both within walking distance of Lancaster Aquatic Center.  PS1 is located on the corner of University Drive and Cooper Drive, while PS7 is on the corner of Complex Drive and Sports Center Drive.
