Kentucky Falls Short Against No. 22 Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 11 Kentucky women’s tennis team wrapped up its final Southeastern Conference road match on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 4-2 decision to 22nd-ranked Texas A&M. The Wildcats fall to 15-5 (7-4 SEC) on the season, while the Aggies advance to 12-11 (4-7 SEC).

Senior Morgan Chumney helped the Wildcats to both their points, first teaming up with sophomore Akvile Paražinskaite to pick up a 6-2 victory in No. 2 doubles. UK’s top-ranked duo of No. 2 Aldila Sutjiadi and Mami Adachi clinched the first point with a 6-4 win over A&M’s sixth-ranked pair of Rutuja Bhosale and Rachel Pierson.

To start off singles play, the Aggies evened the score at one as Paražinskaite was overcome by No. 107 Bhosale, 6-4, 6-1. Chumney helped Kentucky regain the lead, cruising to a 6-2, 6-4 triumph in No. 6 singles, but that would be the Wildcats’ final point in the match as Texas A&M went on to win three straight matches.

Kentucky will wrap up its regular season at home next weekend, with matches against Florida on Friday and South Carolina on Sunday. Sunday’s bout will serve as Senior Day for UK’s two seniors, Chumney and Sutjiadi.
