No. 13 Wildcats Fall Short Against Crimson Tide, 4-2

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 13 Kentucky women’s tennis team saw its win streak end at four on Friday evening as the Wildcats were overcome by No. 45 Alabama in a 4-2 decision. Kentucky falls to 12-3 overall, 4-2 in Southeastern Conference matches, while the Crimson Tide are 7-10 overall, 1-6 in league play.

The Wildcats got off to a rocky start as Alabama quickly took the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. UK did pick up one victory in doubles, as Justina Mikulskyte and Emily Fanning teamed up to take down Juliana Valero and Danielle Spielmann, 6-4.

In singles, Mikulskyte evened the score at 1-1 as she picked up a 6-4, 6-4 victory on court five. The tie was short lived though, as Alabama’s 38th-ranked Erin Routliffe upset No. 19 Aldila Sutjiadi in a 6-3, 6-4 decision. The Tide lengthened its lead to 3-1 as sophomore Akvile Paražinskaite fell to Andie Daniell in straight sets on court two.

Junior Mami Adachi battled through her second set to fend off Danielle Spellmann, 6-2, 7-5, but Alabama would clinch the victory as Emily Fanning dropped a hard-fought match to Smith Hinton, 6-0, 5-7, 6-3.

Senior Morgan Chumney was building momentum as play was ceased, as she had won a second-set tiebreak 7-6 (3) and led the third set 2-0.  

UK will look to get back to its winning ways on Sunday, continuing its road stretch at No. 11 Auburn. First serve is set for noon ET.
