TEMPE, Ariz. – The Kentucky track and field program will dive right into the outdoor season this weekend at Arizona State’s Baldy Castillo Invitational.
UK has spent the week in Arizona during spring break preparing for the meet, which runs from Friday and Saturday at Joe Selleh Track at Sun Angel Stadium.
UK is spending spring break at the Castillo Invitational for the second year in a row.
This year’s field is made up of UK, the host school, Air Force, Iowa, Loyola (Ill.), Ohio State, Oklahoma, North Dakota State, South Dakota, Texas A&M, Minnesota (M) and Utah (W).
Events begin on Friday at 4:40 p.m. ET with the field events while the track events begin at 10 p.m. Saturday starts at 1:30 a.m. with the discus throw, and the men’s 110-meter hurdles kick-off at 5 p.m.
Friday’s action will feature the hammer throw, women’s javelin, 200m, 2,000-meter steeplechase and 1,500m.
A live stream will feature the running events on Saturday beginning at 5 p.m.
The Wildcats who competed last weekend at the NCAA Indoor Championships will take off this weekend, while Wildcats who specialize in outdoor events not offered indoors – like the javelin, discus, 3,000-meter steeplechase and 400m hurdles – will relish the start of the outdoor schedule although not all of them will quite make their signature-event debuts in Tempe.
