UKTF Finishes Weekend with More Momentum

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark., and AMES, Iowa – The Kentucky track and field teams got plenty more performances to build momentum upon as they build toward postseason, which begins later this month, at Arkansas’ Tyson Invitational and the Iowa State Classic this weekend.
On Saturday, the Wildcats got multiple nationally significant marks. That was to go along with three wins at the Tyson Invitational on Friday and a few more strong performances at the ISU Classic.
Jasmine Camacho-Quinn placed second in the Tyson Invitational “Olympic Development” 200 meters with an indoor PR time 23.14, which moved her beyond teammate Kianna Gray to No. 2 on the UK all-time performers list.
Gray ran 23.25 to place fourth in the 200m invitational section. Gray’s PR 23.17 came earlier this season.
Destiny Carter, who won the open long jump, and PR’d in the 60m on Friday, placed fourth in the “Olympic Development” 200m section in 23.50, while Javianne Oliver – winner of the Tyson 60m on Friday – ran 23.60 to finish sixth in the open 200m. UK volunteer assistant coach and Jordan professional Kori Carter won the open 200m in a PR 23.22.
Indeed Saturday was a solid one for professionals with ties to the program, as Class of 2015 Dezerea Bryant won the Millrose Games 60m in 7.12, while her graduating classmate and current volunteer assistant Leah Nugent placed third in the Millrose 60m hurdles (8.02).
Olivia Gruver cleared a new PR 14’3.25”/4.35m to place fifth in a loaded Tyson Invitational pole vault. That was the all-conditions school record by two inches.
Kendall Muhammad placed sixth in the ISU Classic open mile with an indoor PR time 4:06.00.
Nik Huffman placed second in the ISU Classic shot put with a mark at 60’3.75”/18.38m on his fifth attempt.
Sha’Keela Saunders placed fifth in the Tyson Invitational triple jump with a mark of 43’4.5”/13.22m.
The group in Arkansas was made up mostly of sprinters and jumpers. The group competing in Iowa consisted of distance runners and throwers.
The Kentucky women’s team moved up two spots to No. 6 in this week’s USTFCCCA computer rankings. The UK men’s team is up 20 spots to No. 27.
