Results

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The sixth-ranked Kentucky rifle team lost its final home match of the regular season to four-time defending national champion No. 2 West Virginia 4718-4675 on Saturday at the Buell Armory. Kentucky is now 20-6 on the season.

“West Virginia shot well today,” head coach Harry Mullins said. “We had some high points, but still made a few errors along the way. We will have to work (the errors) out this week before the qualifier.”

The Wildcats posted 2356 in air rifle and 2319 in smallbore.

Sonya May was the high finisher for Kentucky after she placed third overall with an 1175 aggregate score. The senior matched her season-high air rifle score (593) that she previously fired in October against Navy. May also shot her second-best smallbore score of the season with a 582.

Heather Kirby led the way again for the Wildcats in air rifle after she fired a 594, just four points from her career-high score.

Kentucky will host Morehead State for a NCAA Qualifier match on Saturday, Feb. 18.
