Kentucky Head Coach Matthew Mitchell
On playing at Georgia…
“Tough place to play, tough team. I thought they played a really tough game.”
On the key in this game…
“Our toughness really came through. They would not go away and we were just able to come up with some tough plays. I thought [Makayla] Epps’ steal was a big momentum shift. It was teetering back and forth, and I thought that was a big play. I just thought there was play after play that was really tough in there. Those 14 defensive boards Evelyn [Akhator] got were grown up rebounds. They were coming at them tonight and they were really, really tough in the paint. I thought our team communicated really well down the stretch, had great poise and did a great job.”
On showing “poise” in this game…
“We have all tried to work on it hard. I was the worst one that did not keep their poise at Missouri. There were some tough times tonight, but I thought the players did a great job keeping their poise. We made some really tough plays. Like I said before the game, I feel like we learned a lot since that night and they have really worked hard at that, so I am very proud of that.”

On how they were able to respond to Georgia…
“It comes to being patient. We do a lot of running our offense, and just because another team scores that does not mean we have to rush to get in our sets and run what we are supposed to run.”

On how important this win on the road is versus the game in Lexington…
“Very big! Coach [Mitchell] emphasized that we would see a totally different Georgia team than the team we played in Lexington. In Lexington, we jumped on them early. We are on their home court, and nobody wants to get beat like that on their home court. It was a battle, especially getting a win on the road after coming off of a loss on the road.”
Georgia Head Coach Joni Taylor
On the difference in the fourth quarter when things started to get a little tight…
“Every time we made a run, they made a run and made a play. We got it down to five and had a chance to score, then we picked up our dribble to make a long pass down the court and they stole it for a layup to extend the lead. Kentucky is a good team and they were playing well so you can’t let them beat you to the ball and get to the free throw line 21 times.”
On this game compared to the last game against Kentucky…
“I think the difference was us. Kentucky is a great team and we have to give them credit, but the last time we played them we were coming off the three-point loss to South Carolina. Our team is quite young and I think because we played South Carolina so well that we thought we could just show up to the next game. I don’t think we were mentally locked in.”
On Caliya Robinson’s play in the second half…
“I think Caliya played well. She got offensive rebounds and found other ways to score. She is always going to bring a crowd when she catches the ball, so I credit her with getting offensive rebounds and finding those other ways to score. She did a great job on the defensive side as well. She did a great job getting buckets for herself. She finished with 19 points so her effort was great.”

On what went wrong tonight…
“In the first quarter we had multiple people with two fouls, so us being in foul trouble and sending them to the line really hurt our starting game.”
