COLUMBUS, Ohio – The fifth-ranked Kentucky rifle team came up short against No. 6 Ohio State, 4684-4671, on Sunday at the Lt. Hugh W. Wylie Range.

“Ohio State had another good match today,” head coach Harry Mullins said. “They’re a good team that keeps moving up. We have to find a way for us to stop sliding down. We have to get moving in the right direction again. Sometimes it’s a slow process. It’s not our lack of work put in during training, but we are just holding on too tightly. We will have to stay focused in the coming weeks as we train and prepare for our match with West Virginia.”

Hanna Carr finished as the top individual for UK with an 1173 aggregate score. The sophomore led all shooters in smallbore after she broke 585 for the third time this season. Carr ultimately placed second overall behind Ohio State’s Michael Steinel, who shot 1177.

Heather Kirby fired a strong 596 in air rifle – her third of the season that was good enough to own the top spot in the discipline – and finished fourth overall with an 1169 aggregate.

Jason Spaude matched his career-high air rifle score (591) that he set back in November in a match where he helped guide the Wildcats to a win against NC State. The sophomore from Saginaw, Michigan, placed fifth in the field.

Cathryn Papasodora finished in eighth place overall after she fired a 590 in air rifle, which is four points from her career-high.

The Wildcats will break for a week before they welcome second-ranked West Virginia to the Buell Armory on Saturday, Feb. 11.
