Asia Seidt Tabbed SEC Freshman of the Week
BIRMINGHAM,
Ala. – After posting three individual first-place finishes against No. 10
Louisville, University of Kentucky freshman Asia Seidt was named the
Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced
Tuesday morning.
A Louisville,
Kentucky native, Seidt posted a top finish in every individual race she
competed in against the Cardinals on Saturday.
Her first win
came in the 100-yard backstroke, touching in 53.79 to lead the Wildcats in a
1-2-3 sweep of the event. As it stands, Seidt holds the eighth-fastest time in
the nation in the event and the third fastest in the SEC.
Showing her
versatility, the freshman went on to post a season-best 54.49 in the 100-yard
butterfly.
Her final
victory came in her signature event, the 200-yard individual medley, and
finished in 2:00.26. She topped each of her competitors by more than two
full seconds. The Kentucky record-holder in the event, Seidt ranks as the
fastest among SEC opponents and the eighth-fastest nationally in the event.
Kentucky will
be back in action on Friday night for its final dual meet of the season at
Cincinnati. Action is set to begin at 5 p.m.
