CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 20 Kentucky women’s tennis team wrapped up a tough weekend of play at the Miami Spring Invite on Sunday afternoon. The invite was stacked with talent, as the Wildcats competed against three top-15 teams in No. 9 Vanderbilt, No. 12 Miami and No. 13 Texas Tech.
In all, Kentucky compiled a 5-4 doubles record at the invite. Notably, senior Aldila Sutjiadi and sophomore Akvile Paražinskaite teamed up to post a perfect 3-0 record on the weekend. On Friday, the duo defeated Vanderbilt’s Georgina Sellyn and Astra Sharma, 6-3. The UK duo continued its winning streak with an impressive win over Texas Tech’s No. 14-ranked Sarah Dvorak and Sabrina Federici, 7-5. Finally, the tandem ended its spotless weekend by blanking Miami’s Dominika Paterova and Estela Perez-Somarriba, 6-0.
Two UK players were able to pull off wins in singles play. Junior Emily Fanning grabbed a hard-fought 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 win over Miami’s Silvia Fuentes on Friday. Junior Mami Adachi was the only Wildcat to win multiple singles matches at the invite, posting a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Miami’s Dominika Paterova as well as taking down Vanderbilt’s Emily Smith, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 on Saturday.
No. 12-ranked Sutjiadi saw a challenging weekend of singles play, competing against the No. 6, 19 and 26-ranked players in the nation.
The Wildcats will return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 24 as they host their home opener with a doubleheader against Miami (Ohio) and Eastern Kentucky. Action will begin at 11 a.m. against Miami, and UK will kick things off against Eastern Kentucky at 6 p.m.
