Men’s Tennis Hosts Duke on Friday, Notre Dame on Sunday
LEXINGTON, Ky. – After starting the 2017 campaign 2-0 with wins over
EKU and Dayton on Monday, the No. 15 Kentucky men’s tennis team will return to the
Boone Indoor Tennis Center on Friday to face No. 25 Duke and Sunday to play
Notre Dame. First serve is set for 5 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Last time out, Kentucky dropped just three sets over two matches while
taking out EKU, 7-0, and Dayton, 6-1. No. 23 junior William Bushamuka, senior
Beck Pennington, senior Nils Ellefsen and sophomore Enzo Wallart all picked up
a singles victory in each match in straight sets.
Kentucky boasts three players ranked in the ITA National Singles
Rankings. Sophomore Ryotaro Matsamura leads the way at No. 17, with Bushamuka
following at No. 23. Junior Trey Yates comes in at No. 110. In the doubles
rankings, the duo of Pennington and Wallart sit at No. 23.
Duke comes to Lexington as the No. 25 team after taking down Elon
during its first dual match of the season. UK and Duke have faced each other in
five straight seasons, and UK is 3-2 during that span. Last season, the
Wildcats edged Duke 4-3 in Durham.
Notre Dame has not yet played a dual match this season, but will face
Ball State on Friday before traveling to the Bluegrass State. UK and UND are split
at 16-16-1 all-time. The Wildcats took the most recent meeting, 4-0.
