No. 5 UK Rifle Opens 2017 with Two Top-10 Matchups

Oxford, Miss. – The fifth-ranked Kentucky rifle team will
open 2017 with two top-10 matchups against No. 3 Murray State and conference
foe No. 10 Memphis. The Wildcats will also face a top-15 opponent in No. 13 Ole
Miss. This is Kentucky’s first action since ending the fall portion of the schedule
in mid-November.

Sunday’s meeting with Memphis will follow Saturday’s
tri-match with the Racers and Rebels. Both matches will begin at 8 a.m. ET inside the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness
Center on the Ole Miss campus.

“I am excited to get the team back on the road,” head coach
Harry Mullins said. “We just finished up with a small training camp and saw
some hard work. Ole Miss is a good place to shoot and I am looking for this
group to have two solid performances. We have been working hard to start the
New Year. From here on out, the matches come very fast and we have to be
focused on performing at our best each day.”

The Wildcats are 11-2 overall and 5-0 in Great American
Rifle Conference competition entering 2017.

Kentucky came out on top of the Tigers and Rebels at the Ole
Miss Open in October after firing a 4680 aggregate to the Tigers’ 4649 and
Rebels’ 4641.

Murray State’s only loss this season came at the hands of
top-ranked TCU. In their last action, the Racers added more wins to their
resume after they placed first out of a five-team field at the Gamecock
Invitational.

Ole Miss fell to No. 15 Army, 4670-4642, and No. 1 West
Virginia, 4704-4647, in its last two outings of the fall schedule.

Memphis holds a 13-8 record
against ranked opponents in the in the CRCA poll with wins against No. 12 Army,
No. 16 Navy, No. 15 Akron, and No. 13 Ole Miss. The Tigers placed second at the
Gamecock Invitational – their last match of 2016.
