Kentucky to Host Blue/White Meet on Saturday

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky
gymnastics team will host its Blue/White meet on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Memorial
Coliseum. Doors open at 12:30 p.m., and admission is free to the public. All
fans will have a chance to win “Excite Night” tickets, and can pick up the 2017
gymnastics poster for the first time.

The meet is Kentucky’s first
chance to compete in Memorial Coliseum this season and will be one of UK’s
final tune-ups before the 2017 campaign begins on Jan. 6 at Eastern Michigan.

“It’s another step in the
process,” head coach Tim Garrison said.
“We’ll be in a competition environment
and in front of our fans, on a hard surface and there will be a judge at the
meet. It’s a different feel on the landing and it’s a challenge physically and
mentally.”

The first regular season home
competition will take place on Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. UK’s home schedule also
features home meets against Auburn on Jan. 20, LSU on Jan. 27, Alabama on Feb.
10 and Arkansas on Mar. 3. Kentucky will also host a quad meet on Feb. 24 with
Illinois, Northern Illinois and Washington.

As a team, Kentucky finished the
season after a fourth place finish at the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional with a score
of 195.725. Alex Hyland was named the all-around champion of the regional and
two Wildcats – Hyland and Sidney Dukes – qualified for the national
championships in the all-around. Dukes was named an All-American after posting
a 9.8875 on bars at the NCAA Championships.

The Wildcats return nine athletes
from last season, and have added six newcomers for the 2017 campaign. While the
Wildcats will not return 10 student-athletes from last season, every athlete
who competed in the NCAA Regional for UK last season – Katrina Coca, Hyland,
Sydney Waltz, Aubree Rosa, Dukes and Katie Stuart – will return this season.
