Second Half Surge Powers Georgia to Win Over Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The 2016 Kentucky women’s
soccer season came to a close on Thursday night at the Bell Soccer Complex, as
Kentucky honored its seven seniors, Alex Carter, Laura Connor, Michaela Dooley,
Jade Klump, Kaitlin Miller, Ayanna Parker and Zoe Swift prior to the match.

Senior Jade Klump scored Kentucky’s goal in
the 90th minute, ending her career on a high note as she headed in a long-range
free kick from inside the six marking just wide of the keeper to get Kentucky
on the board for the first time.

Georgia scored on three counterattacks, all
just 16 minutes apart from one another. The opening goal was scored by Mariel
Gutierrez from Marion Crowder in the 71st minute before Kelsey Killean scored a
second goal from Crowder in less than three minutes to double UGA’s lead.

With the 3-1 loss, the Wildcats finish the 2016
season at 5-9-4 overall and 1-7-3 in the Southeastern Conference. Georgia
finishes the year at 5-12-1 overall and 2-9-0 in the SEC.

Parker made three saves in net for Kentucky,
in the second of her starts this season.

Georgia outshot the Wildcats 13-10 in the
match and 6-5 in the second half. Six of the 13 Georgia shots were on target,
with Kentucky earning five shots on goal in the match. UK earned two corners
with UGA doubling that mark in the match.

The nucleus is strong for Kentucky in 2017,
with the Wildcats expecting to return eight starters next year, including two
players on each line, with three of four defenders as well.
