LEXINGTON, Ky. – Freshman goalkeeper
Evangeline Soucie made a career high 11 saves and senior midfielder Zoe Swift
scored a goal in the 89th minute, but the No. 5/1 Florida Gators
scored a double-overtime game-winning goal in the 103rd minute on Thursday
night to beat the Kentucky women’s soccer team, 2-1.

It was the Southeastern Conference season
opener for both teams, as No. 5 Florida moves to the top of the table with
three points and now sits at 5-1-0 on the season and 1-0-0 in the league.
Kentucky snaps a two-match winning streak and falls to 2-3-1 overall and 0-1-1
in SEC play.

The game winner came off the boot of Florida’
Meggie Daugherty-Howard in the 103rd minute of second overtime as she beat
Soucie diving to her right after great hold-up play from MAC Herrman Award
watch list player Savannah Jordan, who held the ball at the top of the box
after it was slotted in from Gabby Seiler.

Seiler helped put the Gators up 1-0 in the 84th
minute as she rocked in a corner kick rebound into the box, which took a
deflection off of Jordan, who was credited for her team-leading seventh goal of
the season.

Kentucky’s shining moment came off the foot of
Zoe Swift in the 89th minute as Swift took a bouncing ball in the box after a
Tanya Samarzich corner was overserved from the far side and Swift was there to
put it into the net past Kaylan Marckese, who made two saves on the night.

Florida outshot Kentucky 31-3 in the match,
and 19-2 in the second half. The Wildcats got two shots from Swift and one from
freshman Kalli Vogel, with all three UK shots recorded being as shots on goal.

The reigning SEC Freshman of the Week,
Evangeline Soucie, made a career-high 11 saves in the match after making a
then-career high six saves at Louisville in a 2-1 win over the Cards on Friday
night. Soucie carries the team record of 2-3-1 in the net.
