Kentucky vs. Northwestern Halted Due to Rain, Will Not Resume

LEXINGTON, Kentucky – The Kentucky women’s
soccer match with Northwestern was halted for inclement weather in the area on
Sunday after 45 minutes of play. Since the 70-minute requirement had not been
completed, and it was out of the NCAA’s three-hour window to finish the match,
the game was halted and there will be no resumption of play.

In the 45 minutes that were played, there was
no score, with the match’s best scoring opportunity coming in the 10th
minute as UK’s Tanya Samarzich hit the inside of the post off of a header,
deflecting the ball off the goalie and then back into the field of play before
the ball was grabbed by the keeper to end the scoring threat.

Inside of the 45 minutes played in the match,
there were just four shots, two on goal – one per team – and four combined
corners. Kentucky keeper Evangeline Soucie made one save in the half, but no
stats in the match will be counted.

Kentucky will face Louisville on Friday, Sept.
2 at 7:30 p.m. ET from Lynn Stadium in the Derby City. Kentucky has five-straight wins over U of L with the last four of them coming in shutout fashion.
