UKTF’s Dorsey & Famurewa Named to SEC Community Service Team

LEXINGTON, Ky. –
Kentucky track and field’s Fred Dorsey III and Beckie Famurewa were both named to
the 2016 Southeastern Conference Track and Field Community Service Team.

The conference
names a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports,
looking to highlight athletes from each school who give back to their community
through superior service efforts.

Dorsey has spent time volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. He also visited
patients at the Veterans Affairs hospital in Lexington, packed food for UK’s
backpack program where those backpacks were given to those less fortunate and
was a participant in UK’s 2014 Blanket Project where he helped make blankets to
give out during the winter holiday season.

Famurewa has
logged more than 40 hours of service time, and has also developed into a
two-time SEC Champion thrower. The 2016 SEC Champion in the weight throw and
hammer throw has been involved in Cats Cultivating Character program in the
past and has made several trips to UK Children’s Hospital, and also served as a
breakfast with Santa volunteer, packed and delivered food as part of UK’s
backpack program and participated in UK’s 2014 blanket project. 

She’s spent time with hospital patients at UK campus hospitals as well as at a
Lexington hospital to name just some of her service initiatives.

Dorsey was named a second team All-American for the first time in his career,
by virtue of his top-16 finish at the NCAA Championships.

Famurewa earned second team All-American honors in the hammer throw this
season, finishing her career as a three-time All-American with two spots on the
first team.
