BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Kentucky women’s golfer Ale Walker has been named to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team, the league office announced Tuesday.
Walker has documented more than 100 hours of community service since July 1. She traveled to Ethiopia in the summer of 2015 as part of a UK Athletics service trip. In Ethiopia, she helped construct housing for widows, delivered beds and mattresses to lepers, served food to orphans, and delivered hygiene supplies to the imprisoned.
The junior from Paintsville, Ky., participated in UK’s backpack program with God’s Pantry, filling backpacks with food supplies and delivering them to local elementary schools. She has also volunteered for Salvation Army bell ringing on multiple occasions during the holiday season to raise money for homeless families.
With a 3.544 grade-point average in the classroom, Walker has been on the Dean’s List in the fall 2013 and fall 2015 semesters. She made the Women’s Golf Coach Association All-American Scholars Team in 2013-14, the SEC Honor Roll in 2014-15 and the SEC First-Year Honor Roll in 2013-14. She’s double majoring in management and marketing.
Walker did not participate during the 2015-16 season due to injury. She has played in 17 events during her Kentucky career and posted a 76.6 stroke average with two top-20 finishes.
The annual SEC Community Service Team recognizes the superior community service efforts of the league’s student-athletes. The SEC Community Service Team consists of one student-athlete from each SEC institution, as nominated by the school’s personnel. The SEC names a community service team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports.
As always, fans can follow the team on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, as well as on the web at UKathletics.com, for the latest Kentucky women’s golf information.
