CHARLOTTESVILLE,
Va. – The Kentucky track and field teams will begin three-weekend stretch of
meets leading up to the Southeastern Conference Championships at the Virginia
Challenge Friday and Saturday.
Friday’s competition at 10 a.m. ET with the women’s hammer throw featuring
Brandi Walker.
FlashResults.com
will provide live results.
Track events get under way at 1:30 p.m. with the women’s 100 meters.
Kianna Gray, Destiny Carter, Javianne Oliver, Jasmine Quinn, Donatella Asemota and
Precious Hitchcock are entered in that race.
Gray ranks No. 5 (11.21) in the nation and Carter ranks No. 9 (11.26) in the nation this year. Those
times were wind-aided so they can’t be considered for record purposes, but the
NCAA accepts times with aiding winds less than +4.0 for Regional Championships
qualifying purposes. Oliver earned All-America honors at 60 meters indoors,
last month. Quinn ranks No. 3 in the nation in the 100m hurdles (12.97).
Jacob Thomson will run for the first time since late March in the 1,500m on
Saturday. In his last competition he ran a 10k time of 29:01.34, which still
ranks No. 8 nationally.
The UK women’s team is ranked No. 8 in the nation.
Kentucky will travel to the LSU Invitational next week and host the Kentucky
Relays the following Saturday before the SEC Championships May 12-14.
