ATHENS, Ga. – Kentucky’s track and field teams kept the strong performances rolling to conclude Georgia’s Spec Towns Invitational on Saturday.
The Wildcats wrapped up another successful meet by winning seven events and finishing with the top-collegian in three more. Kentucky alums (Kendra Harrison – 200 meters, and Leah Nugent – 400m hurdles) won two of the three events where professionals were victorious.
In all for the two-day meet Kentucky had 12 athletes place as top-collegian in their events.
Perhaps Saturday’s best performance, at least as it relates to significance on the current NCAA performance list, came from UK’s women’s 4x100m relay team. Javianne Oliver, Precious Hitchcock, Destiny Carter and Kianna Gray ran 43.28 to win with the fourth fastest time in the nation this year.
Olivia Gruver won the pole vault at a school-record clearance 13’9.25”/4.20m.
Marie-Josée Ebwea-Bile and Sha’Keela Saunders went 1-2 in the triple jump. They reached respective marks of 42’9.75″/13.05m (+2.8) & 42’9″/13.03m (+1.2). Both marks were outdoor season-bests although Ebwea-Bile’s was wind-aided.
Xaivier McAllister won the high jump with a best clearance at 7’0.25”/2.14m. Justin Kretchmer placed second with a best clearance at 6’11”/2.11m.
Destiny Carter sped to a 100m win in a time of 11.15w (+4.2), although the wind being over 4.0 meters/second made the mark too windy to count as a qualifier for NCAA East Preliminary Championships. Carter’s season-best wind-legal time of 11.26 currently ranks No. 5 in the NCAA and No. 3 in the east.
Raine Wireman won the 1,500m with a time of 3:55.50.
Donatella Asmota won the open 200m 23.36w (+3.0).
Kentucky alum Kendra Harrison ran a windy 23.01 (+2.3) to claim the top 200m race named for UGA great Gwen Torrence. Hitchcock placed second (top collegian) in 23.26w and Jasmine Quinn was third in 23.29.
UK Class of 2015er Leah Nugent opened her season win a 400m hurdles-winning time of 56.92. Kiah Seymour was second and top collegian with a time of 57.25 in her first hurdles race of the season.
Nik Huffman was top collegian in the shot put with an outdoor-PR mark of 60’4”/18.39m.
Adriana Brown and Beckie Famurewa went 2-3 in the shot put.
Kentucky’s men’s 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay both placed second.
Kentucky will take off next weekend.
