Duckworth, Short PR at Bulldog Decathlon

ATHENS, Ga. – Tim Duckworth and Cameron Short turned in the two best decathlon scores in Kentucky track and field history at Georgia’s Bulldog Decathlon on Thursday.
Duckworth placed seventh on a school-record 7,585 points, Short was ninth on 7,460. Both scores were personal bests.
Duckworth bettered his decathlon PR by 429 points. Short scored more than 7,000 points for the first time bettering his prior best by 793 points.
The marks rank No. 6 and No. 7 in the NCAA right now. All but one of the top-seven decathlon scores in the country this year came at the Bulldog Decathlon.
Duckworth produced PRs in seven events. Short PRd in six events.
On Thursday Duckworth turned in a 15.5-foot PR in in the javelin (187’9”/57.22m) and more than an eight-foot PR in the discus (131’1”/39.96m). He also broke 15 seconds in the 110m hurdles for the first time, running 14.80 (+1.1) and finished with more than a five-second PR: 5:12.79.
On Thursday Short threw huge PRs in the discus (131’10”/40.19m) and javelin (181’10”/55.43m). His discus PR was 7’6” better than his prior best, and his javelin PR was 15’0.75” better than his previous best toss. He also cleared a new PR in the pole vault by two inches (13’7.25”/4.15m).
Day One Results
On Wednesday Duckworth produced PRs in the shot put by more than eight feet and in the long jump by 5.5 inches and in the 400m. He also ran wind-aided PR in the 100m.
On Wednesday Short recorded personal bests in the shot put and 400 meters, and cleared a new best high jump clearance during his time at UK by a half-inch at 6’10.25”/2.09m.
Weekend Primer
Forty-nine more Wildcats arrived in Athens on Thursday evening, and will compete in the open events at the Spec Towns Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
The Wildcats are coming off arguably their best meet of the season across the board. Kentucky set three school records and four freshman records, won three relays and recorded a bunch of nationally elite marks last weekend at the Florida Relays.

Kentucky’s women’s team remained No. 9 in this week’s national rankings.

Kentucky track and field’s Kianna Gray was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week on Tuesday.

Gray is the second Wildcat to earn SEC Freshman of the Week honors through three weeks of the outdoor season. Jasmine Quinn earned the accolade on March 22, after she ran a 13.01 100m hurdles, which remains the nation-leading time.
