Wildcats in the Pros - April 6

Each week, Wildcats in the Pros catches up with some former Kentucky student-athletes who are doing big things in professional athletics.

Kentucky is known for its great point guards, and a pair of former Wildcats are currently shining in the NBA statistical standings.

Former Cat Rajon Rondo leads the NBA in assists, averaging 11.7 helpers per game. That’s more than a full assist ahead of any other player in the league.

John Wall, another former Kentucky point guard, is third in the league in assists, dishing out 10.2 per contest.

Former Kentucky outfielder Collin Cowgill was the opening day starter in right field for the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday. Cowgill went 0-for-2 as the Indians lost to the Boston Red Sox 6-2.

Cowgill is with his fifth major league team this season. After having a solid year in 2014, Cowgill battled injuries last season while playing for the Los Angeles Angels.

Former Kentucky golfer J.B. Holmes had to withdraw from last week’s Shell Houston Open due to a shoulder injury. However, the Campbellsville, Ky. Native hopes to be ready for the first major championship of the 2016 PGA Tour season.

That major is the Masters, and it begins on Thursday at the legendary Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. Holmes is slated to tee off at 1:50 p.m. on Thursday, and he will be paired with former Masters champion Angel Cabrera and Ireland’s Shane Lowry.
