No. 19 Kentucky to Face Volunteers in Knoxville

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The 19th-ranked Kentucky men’s tennis team looks to return to action on Friday afternoon, traveling to Knoxville, Tennessee to square off with the Tennessee Volunteers, with first serve set for 1 p.m.

Kentucky (14-5, 4-3 SEC) will look to earn its fourth win in five meetings on Friday, after going 3-1 last week. First, the Wildcats upset No. 10 Illinois, 4-3, and took down Morehead State, 4-0, in a mid-week doubleheader. Kentucky then downed South Carolina, 4-3, in its first Southeastern Conference matchup of the week before a 6-1 loss against the No. 11 Georgia Bulldogs.

The Wildcats rank among the top 25 programs in the nation for the sixth consecutive week, dropping one spot from the week prior. Sophomore William Bushamuka is UK’s lone ranked singles player, ranked No. 27 in the country. The Princeton, N.J., native boasts eight ranked wins this season including three within the top-15. 

Despite senior Beck Pennington’s injury preventing him from playing this season, he and Bushamuka are still considered the 49th-best doubles pairing in the nation. 

Tennessee (6-11, 0-4 SEC) is currently unranked. While they have no ranked singles players, Tennessee duo Luis Valero and Jack Schipanski make up the 26th ranked doubles team.
