Thompson Selected for State Farm College 3-Point Championship

LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky senior guard Janee Thompson has been selected to the women’s 3-point roster for the 28th annual State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championship at the Berry Center in Cypress, Texas, on Thursday, March 31. 

Thompson, a native of Chicago, is one of eight women’s college basketball players chosen for the event that will air live on ESPN at 9 p.m. ET. According to a release by Intersport, the producers of the event, Thompson was invited to take part in the event after being recognized as one of the finest shooters from 3-point territory during the season. 

Intersport invited 24 of the nation’s elite men’s and women’s college basketball players to compete in the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships (eight dunkers, along with eight men’s and eight women’s shooters). The program showcases the dunking and sharp-shooting talents of the nation’s top college basketball players during the Men’s 3-Point Shooting Championship, the Women’s 3-Point Shooting Championship, the Battle of the Champions and the Slam Dunk Championships. 

Tickets for the 2016 State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-point Championships are on sale now and can be purchased at CollegeSlam.com. General admission tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. 

Thompson saved her best season with the Wildcats for last as she averaged 12.6 points per game with 4.8 assists per game. Thompson scored in double figures 23 times, including 20+ points three times. Against highly-ranked Missouri on Senior Night, Thompson posted a career-high 24 points, including 12 points in the fourth quarter to power the Wildcats to victory. Thompson recorded two assist-point double-doubles on the year with 16 points and 10 assists against both Eastern Michigan and LSU. She was the first player to record two or more assist-point double-doubles in the same season since 1987-88. 

 

The senior leader had six or more assists in 13 games, which is the most six-plus assist games in a season in the Matthew Mitchell era. Thompson was 56-for-144 from the 3-point line on the year, which surpassed her career 3-pointers hit of 36 entering the season. Against Oklahoma in the NCAA Tournament, she became the 32nd player in program history to record over 1,000 career points.
