Masterton Earns All-America Honorable Mention in Platform Dive
ATLANTA – Kentucky men’s swimming and diving improved on its finish from last year at the 2016 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, placing 40th with 6 points.
Freshman diver Seb Masterton was the lone Wildcat to score in the meet, earning a spot in the consolation finals with his prelims score of 373.20 points. He went on to finish 11th overall and take home All-America honorable mention with a score of 353.60 points in the B final. The British product had one of the most successful freshman diving campaigns in program history, taking the Southeastern Conference silver medal in both the 3-meter and platform dives at the conference meet. Additionally, he posted the second-highest score in school history and broke the freshman record in the 3-meter dive with 408.10 points, while his career bests of 378.10 in the 3-meter and 389.70 on tower both rank fourth in UK laurels.
Levi Lindsey also competed in the platform dive, staying within the top eight spots throughout his first three dives. The sophomore fell just shy of a second set of dives, placing 23rd with 345.95 points, his third-highest score of the season.
The final day of competition marked the end of senior George Greenhalgh’s collegiate career as a Wildcat. Greenhalgh placed 29th in the 200 breast in 1:56.67, the third-fastest swim of his career in the event. He goes down as the fastest breaststroker in program history, with school records in both the short course yards and long course meters 100 and 200 breast as well as a leg of the SCY 400 medley relay with a 52.30 split. He owns the SCY 100 breast record by over a second in 52.51 seconds, while he has nearly a two-second edge on the SCY 200 breast standard in 1:55.98. Additionally, he holds the LCM 100 breast record in 1:02.13 and the LCM 200 breast record in 2:15.77.
Also capping off his collegiate season was junior Kyle Higgins, who posted a 39th-place finish in 1:46.16.
The 2015-16 collegiate season is over for the both the men’s women’s teams, but the Wildcats will continue to compete in preparation for the 2016 Olympic Trials. The Trials will be held this summer in Omaha, Neb., on June 26-July 3.
