Wildcats in Fifth Place Heading into Final Round

AUBURN, Ala. – Four Wildcats carded rounds of 75 to pace the Kentucky men’s golf team on the second day of the Tiger Invitational. UK currently sits in fifth place overall with 18 holes remaining on Tuesday. Brian Craig’s squad will be playing for a sixth-straight top-five finish during Tuesday’s final round. 

Sophomore Tyler ‘Chip’ McDaniel, junior Stephen Stallings, senior David Snyder and freshman Fred Allen Meyer all posted rounds of 75 on day two.  

About the lineup:

McDaniel leads Kentucky after day two at Grand National. After a strong finish in the first round, the sophomore from Manchester, Ky., started the second day off strong with a birdie on the first hole, ending the opening nine with a 1-over, 37, before finishing the round with one birdie early in the back nine. The sophomore fell slightly on the individual leaderboard, currently tied for 14th going into day three. 

Snyder matched McDaniel’s score, moving up the individual leaderboard by two spots on day two. The senior charted two birdies, both of which occurred over the final nine holes, ending the day on a strong note. Looking ahead to day three, Snyder is tied for 36th place individually. Stallings also finished the round with a 3-over, 75, moving up the leaderboard by four spots, sitting at a tie for 43rd as we look forward to the last round of play. 

Sophomore Cooper Musselman wrapped up the second day of the Tiger Invitational with a 7-over, 79 score. The Louisville, Ky., native had a solid opening day two, charting four birdies in the first nine holes. He is tied with Stallings for 43rd overall.

Meyer shot up the individual leaderboards on day two, moving ahead seven spots, currently tied for 50th. The freshman had a much-improved performance from the first round of play, putting up four birdies on day two. Meyer finished the day with a score of 3-over, 75. 

Sophomore Chris Meuth, suiting up as an individual, matched his opening round of 78 with a second round of the same score. 

The Tournament Field:

The second round of the Tiger Invitational saw every team with an over-par score. No. 4 Auburn is still atop the team standings board with a 1-over par combined score. Ben Schlottman is the individual leader after the second round, charting a 3-under, 69 score on day two. 

Troy remains in second place with a combined 3-over, 579, followed by Kennesaw State in third with a 7-over, 583. University of North Carolina-Greensboro registered a 17-over, 593 score, which was good for fourth place.

The Course: 

Set on the 600-acre Lake Saugahatchee, the Grand National Lake Course will be home to the Tiger Invitational again this year. Grand National has been the location for the Tiger Invitational every year since its inaugural tournament in 2013, and is also host to the PGA Tour’s Barbasol Championship in July. 

Players will tee off with a shotgun start at 7:45 a.m. ET on Tuesday for the final round of the 54-hole event. Teams will be paired based on the results from the first two rounds to conclude the final 18 holes. Fans can follow along with the action here.
