Kentucky Falls to South Carolina in SEC Semifinals

Playing its third game in three days, No. 14 Kentucky came up short in Saturday’s SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament semifinals, falling to third-ranked and top-seeded South Carolina 93-63.

Kentucky’s only lead of the game came when freshman Maci Morris hit a three-pointer early in the game to make it 3-2. 

Makayla Epps led Kentucky with 16 points, while Alexis Jennings had 10.

Kentucky shot 44.6 percent from the floor and had 19 turnovers against the Gamecocks. Meanwhile, South Carolina used its inside presence to shoot 52.9 percent from the floor while including 12-of-22 (55 percent) from three-point range.

The Wildcats has already beaten LSU and Florida in their first two games in the tournament, but couldn’t make it three straight against a South Carolina team that ran its record to 30-1 on the season.

Tiffany Mitchell led South Carolina with 20 points. A’ja Wilson had 18 points, while Alaina Coates had 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Kentucky may have the opportunity to host the NCAA Tournament’s first and second rounds in Lexington, although that announcement will not be made until March 14.
