Beckie Famurewa Wins SECTF Weight Throw

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.  – At long last, Beckie Famurewa won a Southeastern Conference Championship. The fifth-year senior snatched the win in the weight throw on Saturday, highlighting the SEC Championships for the No. 15 Kentucky women’s track and field team. 

She tossed the 20-pound weight 68-feet, 7.75 inches/20.92 meters to claim her first SEC Gold Medal. She is now a five-time SEC Medalist.

The UK women’s team has had at least one SEC Champion in each of the past four seasons.

Other SEC Medalists on Saturday
Jacob Thomson made a brave move on the bell lap of the 5,000 meters, but Ole Miss’ Ryan Walling covered it in the final 200m. Thomson earned his first SEC Silver Medal, with a time of 13:58.27 to Walling’s 13:56.77.

Ariah Graham couldn’t quite outkick LSU’s Morgan Schuetz off the final curve in the 800m, as she earned the Silver Medal with a time of 2:05.78.

Javianne Oliver ran a 60m PR of 7.26 to claim Bronze.

The UK women’s 4x400m relay of Jasmine Mitchell, Kiah Seymour, Destiny Carter and Ariah Graham ran 3:31.50 to claim the Bronze Medal.

The Team Results

The UK women’s team placed sixth with 48 points. 
UK placed fourth overall with 76 points last year.
The UK men’s team finished 11th, up a spot from a year ago, with 32 points. The point total was 10 more than the amount earned in 2015.

Men’s Scorers
on Saturday

Nick Anderson ran 7.86 in the 60m hurdles to place fifth and earn four points.

Cameron Short placed fifth in the #SECTF heptathlon with 5508 points (a
164-point PR). He
produced personal bests the pole vault, long jump, high jump and shot put.

David Cline tossed a personal best in the weight throw: 65’/19.81m to score a
point with an eighth-place finish.

Lou Styles ran a mile PR 4:03.86 to place eighth in the mile and earn a point. 

Women’s Scorers on Saturday
Jasmine Quinn and Jacklyn Howell placed seven-eight in the 60m hurdles,
combining to earn three points for the Wildcats. 

Olivia Gruver placed eighth, and earned a point, in her first SEC pole vault
with a mark of 13’6.25”/4.12m

Marie-Joseé Ebwea-Bile placed eighth in the her first SEC triple jump with a
mark of 41’10.75″/12.77m, good for a point.

Kentucky’s women’s distance medley relay placed eighth with a time of 11:30.93
to add a point to the cause.

Destiny Carter placed eighth in the 200m.

nation’s top-25 teams, according to the latest national rankings announced Monday
by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The UK women’s team is ranked No. 15.
