UK Rifle Claims Numerous GARC Awards

OXFORD, Miss. – After the opening day of the Great
American Rifle Conference Championships, the Kentucky rifle team
raked in multiple postseason awards at the event’s banquet.

The Wildcats picked up four All-Conference
selections.

Freshman Hanna Carr was a first-team selection in
smallbore and combined and second-team in air rifle. Carr is tied for the
highest smallbore score in the country with a 592.

Heather Kirby replicated her second-team honor in
air rifle from last season.

Sonya May received honorable mentions in air rifle
and combined, while Billy Azzinaro received honorable mention in smallbore.

Luke South was named UK’s Scholar-Athlete Award winner.

GARC Championships Day One Update
Jason Scharbel shot a 581, the top individual smallbore qualifying
score on Friday. He had 25 center shots, while Army’s Marvin Lewis had 31. So
Lewis took first, and Sharbel second.

Heather Kirby had the No. 3 score: 577. Billy Azzinaro was fifth with a score
of 575.

The Championships continue Saturday with team smallbore and individual
air rifle. Live scoring and targets will be available here.
