No. 20 Kentucky Hosts Indiana in Mid-Week Matchup

LEXINGTON, Ky.—The No. 20 Kentucky women’s tennis team will look to extend its winning streak to eight matches when No. 59 Indiana comes to town on Wednesday, Feb. 24.  The Wildcats will host the Hoosiers at 10 a.m. ET inside the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex.

Kentucky has accrued an 8-1 record this year, with the only loss of the season coming to No. 8 Michigan in the championship final of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend Regional.  Since the setback, the Wildcats have been taking down opponents handily, allowing at most two points to be scored against them, which came against Michigan State on Feb. 21 after the match had already been clinched at 4-0. Furthermore, the last time that the Wildcats did not jump out to a 4-0 lead to secure a win was on Jan. 30 against San Diego, which saw a drop from No. 5 singles before ultimately putting a 4-1 victory in the books.

Two Wildcats have posted flawless records on the season, as Morgan Chumney is 4-0 in No. 4 singles and 1-0 in the No. 3 spot, while Kirsten Lewis has taken down all six of her opponents in No. 6 singles.  Starting the season at No. 4 singles and gradually moving into the No. 1 spot, freshman Justina Mikulskye has posted a 5-1 record in her freshman campaign, with her only loss of the season coming against No. 53 Kanika Vaidya of No. 50 Columbia in No. 1 singles.

Indiana has posted a 6-2 record this season, with losses coming against Xavier and No. 32 Notre Dame.  The Hoosiers do not have any players ranked in doubles or singles, but do feature one player who has gone undefeated this season as Sarah MacLean boasts an 8-0 record in the No. 3 singles spot.  The rest of the team has more or less split their singles play, and the Hoosiers have also toyed around with doubles pairings.  In the two most recent outings, Indiana had MacLean and Natalie Whalen at No. 1 singles, posting a 1-1 record with the loss coming against No. 15 Quinn Gleason/Monica Robinson of Notre Dame.
