UK Opens Home Stretch with Sunday Doubleheader

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 20 Kentucky women’s tennis hosts a doubleheader
for its home opening weekend on Sunday and faces No. 75 Michigan State and
Eastern Kentucky. The doubleheader also opens up a stretch of five matches at
the Boone Center in Lexington.

The Wildcats
enter the weekend riding a strong five-match win streak and a 6-1 overall
record, with their only loss of the season coming at the hands of current No. 8
Michigan in the second match of the season. Aldila Sutjiadi and Mami Adachi are
both ranked in the ITA Singles Rankings with Sutjiadi boasting a 5-1 record and
coming in at No. 59, while Adachi also holds a 5-1 record and comes in at No.
109. The duo also combines for the No. 4 national ranking in doubles.

UK faces Michigan State at 11 a.m. in the Boone
Center. The Spartans are coming off a 4-3 win against Xavier after a 5-2 loss
to No. 43 Wake Forest, which gives them an overall record of 4-2 for the 2016
season. Their other loss came to another ranked team in No. 35 Auburn, 4-0,
during the ITA Kickoff Weekend. At No. 4 singles, Aslina Chua has a 4-0 record,
while Allie Baer comes in with a 2-0 record at the No. 5 singles position.

The second matchup of the day is against in-state
foe Eastern Kentucky at 5 p.m. The Colonels split matches last weekend with a
win over Lincoln Memorial University and a loss to Western Kentucky, 4-3, for
an overall record of 3-3. EKU Freshman Viktorija Demcenkova enters Sunday’s dual
with a five-match win streak and was named this week’s Ohio Valley Conference
Female Tennis Athlete of the Week.
