“This is a big
match,” head coach Harry Mullins said. “It’s 50 percent of our season. We’ve
struggled at times this year and had some great times this year. Hopefully
we’ll be prepared for the match to move on to the tournament. It’s always fun
going to the postseason. Everything from here on out is the postseason.”
Freshman Hanna Carr
owns the highest aggregate score in the country after an 1186 at Nebraska in
November. Carr also holds six of the top-10 best team aggregate scores this
season.
In air rifle, Sonya
May has three of the top-five team scores with the highest being 595. Connor
Davis shot an 1180 aggregate in Akron for the second best score on the team.
“I think it’s
definitely an uphill climb for our athletes to strive to where they want to
be,” Mullins said. “We’re excited. The team is ready and training has been
going well. Hopefully we’ll be able to put the numbers up that reflect the
performances that we’ve had in training.”
The Great American
Rifle Conference Championships follow this week’s qualifiers and will be held
in Oxford, Miss., on Feb. 27-28.
