Kentucky Volleyball Announces Spring Schedule

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky volleyball program released its spring schedule on Tuesday afternoon, including three home matches against Xavier, Louisville, Cincinnati, and participation in the KiVa College Invite.
To start off the spring season, the Wildcats will host Xavier at home on March 31 at 7 p.m. in Memorial Coliseum, followed by another home match against Louisville on April 3 at 4 p.m. in Lexington. Following the home stand, the Wildcats will travel to Louisville the following weekend to compete in the KiVa College Invite. Kentucky will close out the spring season by welcoming the Cincinnati Bearcats to Lexington on April 14 at 7 p.m.
“I think our schedule for this spring is perfect for our team to continue developing,” 11th-season head coach Craig Skinner said. “We’re still working on our style and system for the 2016 season, so playing this caliber of opponent should be a good test to see where we stand.”
The Xavier Musketeers went 18-12 in the fall season, falling to Villanova in the semifinals of the Big East Conference Tournament, where junior Abbey Bessler was named to the all-tournament team.
The Louisville Cardinals finished up their regular season with a 25-7 record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, falling to No. 21 Illinois. The Cardinals have three returning All-Region selections.
Cincinnati wrapped up the 2015 season with a 21-10 mark while going 13-7 in the American Athletic Conference. The Bearcats earned two all-conference nods in Carly Nolan and Jordan Thompson. Thompson also earned the AAC’s Freshman of the Year distinction.
The Wildcats concluded 2015 at a 21-10 mark, finishing second in the Southeastern Conference at 14-4 in league play. The Wildcats made their 11th-consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament boasting four players who earned All-Southeastern Conference recognition this season in senior Morgan Bergren, sophomores Kaz Brown and Ashley Dusek and freshman Brooke Morgan. Dusek headlined the group, earning SEC Libero of the Year and being named to the All-SEC team. Brown and Bergren both were named to the All-SEC team, while Morgan made the SEC All-Freshman team. With the distinctions, Kentucky has now won five of the last six Libero of the Year awards and has placed at least one person on the All-Freshmen team in 11-straight seasons. Bergren, Brown and Dusek all earned AVCA All-Region honors, while Bergren and Dusek were also named All-America selections by the AVCA.
