Saunders Shows Solid Form on Kentucky Invitational Day Two

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Sha’Keela Saunders added the nation’s No. 2
triple jump to her world-leading long jump on Saturday at the Kentucky
Invitational inside Nutter Field House.
Saunders spent her initial attempts tinkering with a starting mark. She found a
suitable solution on her penultimate attempt, reaching an all-time personal
best 43-feet 3.75 inches/13.20 meters.
The mark was four inches better than her prior personal best, 42’11.75”/13.10
meters, recorded nearly a year ago on the same runway and pit at the McCravy
Memorial.
Saunders jumped an indoor long jump PR 21′ 6.25″/6.56m last Dec., a mark
which remains the best in the world this season at time of publication.

Other noteworthy performances by Wildcats on Saturday included

  • Nick
Anderson won the 60m hurdles in 7.92.

  • Katy
Kunc won the mile in 4:56.41.

  • Freshman
Kianna Gray won the 200m in 23.86.

  • Xaivier
McAllister placed second in the high jump, clearing 6’10.25″/2.09m in his
    UK debut.

  • Fred
Dorsey improved his PR to 24’5.5″/7.45m to place third in the long jump.
He finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 47’1.50” /14.36m in his
    first collegiate TJ.

  •  Jacob
Thomson was second in the mile in 4:12.08.

  • Lou
Styles was runner-up in the 800m with a time of 1:53.18. Shane Dillon placed
    third in 1:53.27.

  •  Olivia
Gruver placed third in the pole vault with a clearance at 12’10”/3.91m.

UK’s women’s team entered the meet ranked No. 8 in the initial USTFCCCA rankings.

Kentucky will host what has become one of the best regular-season
fields of any meet in the nation for the Rod McCravy Memorial next
weekend.
