LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky signee Lindsey Corsaro, a 6-foot guard out of Roncalli High School in Indianapolis, has been named to the Naismith Trophy Girl’s High School Player of the Year presented by Hilton Worldwide – Midseason Team. The senior is one of 25 national high school seniors named to the watch list, which was announced on Jan. 14.
The Naismith High School Trophy presented by Hilton Worldwide is determined by a national Board of Selectors. The field will be narrowed to the national semifinalists on Feb. 10, while the finalists will be announced on Feb. 24. The 2016 All-America teams are slated to be announced on March 7, followed by the announcement of the Naismith High School Trophy recipient on March 10.
Corsaro signed with the Wildcats as a five-star recruit and the No. 35 player in the nation according to the espnW HoopGurlz Top 100, and was also tabbed as the No. 8 guard in the class of 2016. Prospectsnation.com lists Corsaro as the 15th-best player in the nation, saying Corsaro is “a big wing who excels playing off the bounce … will be good making reads in pick and roll situations, but can also stretch the floor with the perimeter jumper.” Though Corsaro went down with an ACL injury during a game in January 2015, she was still expected to be one of the state’s top players during her senior campaign and was named to the All-USA Indy-Area Preseason First Team. Corsaro has long been recognized as a top prospect in Indiana, as she was named to the IBCA Underclass All-State Team in 2013 and 2014 and added IBCA Underclass Supreme All-State honors in 2015. Last season for Roncalli, Corsaro averaged 22.4 points and 10.4 rebounds per game, as well as 2.9 assists and 2.5 steals per game.
In her senior campaign, Corsaro is averaging 27.4 points per game along with 10.4 rebounds per game, 3.3 assists per game and 2.8 steals per game. Corsaro has scored over 20 points in each of her 16 games this season, including a pair of 40-point performances early in the campaign. On Nov. 10, 2015, she poured in 41 points in a 79-65 victory against Perry Meridian before a 42-point showing in the 76-74 win over Pike on Nov. 14.
