FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – Kentucky women’s golf signee Sarah Shipley has been named the Golf Association of Michigan Girls’ Player of the Year after a spectacular season in 2015.
Shipley, who signed with Kentucky in November, accumulated 1,205 points on the GAM Junior Girls’ Honor Roll, easily beating out last year’s winner and this season’s second-place finisher, who notched 809 points.
The Hastings, Mich., native had a banner year in 2015. She won the GAM Junior Invitational, the AJGA Coca-Cola Classic and the Michigan PGA Junior, in addition to several other top finishes. Shipley is a five-time champion at the junior level in Michigan, including the Michigan Girls’ Amateur Championship.
“It is so awesome to be GAM Player of the Year,” Shipley said in a release. “I really didn’t think about it as a goal, but I’m so honored it happened. There are so many great golfers in our state and it really adds to a great season for me.”
Shipley is currently ranked No. 56 overall in Golfweek Magazine’s class of 2016 rankings. She will join Josephine Chang, currently ranked No. 62 in Golfweek Magazine’s rankings, at UK in the fall of 2016.
Kentucky’s 2015-16 season resumes Jan. 31 vs. Louisville.
