UK Rifle Finishes Fall Undefeated

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky rifle team picked up wins over
Navy and Morehead State on Saturday at Buell Armory.

Divided into split squads, Kentucky’s scored “blue” squad totaled 4657. Navy
shot 4616 and Morehead State posted a 4600.

“We split the team up to give some of the younger shooters a
chance to get a feel for match pressure,” UK head coach Harry Mullins said.  “Sonya May, Carmen Fry and Heather Kirby were
the only ones to shoot a
590 or better so we are going to have to work on our endurance a little.

“Overall there was nothing great about our scores, but the team as a
whole fought through some though spots. Some came out good and others just ran
out of shots.”

Kentucky shot 2305 in smallbore and 2352 in air rifle. Kentucky’s “white” squad scored 4654.

May had
the air rifle high score of the day with a 593. Fry shot 592 and Kirby shot
590. May shot 581 in smallbore. Hanna Carr had the top smallbore score with
582.

Billy Azzinaro shot 579 in smallbore and 589 in air rifle.

Kentucky finished the fall portion of the season undefeated and 4-0 in Great
American Rifle Conference competition.

“It will be nice to get a little break this next week before
we head to the USA Shooting winter air rifle championships,” Mullins said. “We
will go and focus a little more on air rifle now until we head into the winter
break.”
