Kentucky is coming off a 21-17 loss at Vanderbilt last week to conclude its league schedule. After taking an early lead, the Wildcats fell behind 21-10 . UK fought back to get into position to win the game behind a stout defensive effort and explosive runs from Jojo Kemp and Boom Williams.

UK held Vanderbilt to 301 total yards of offense, with Khalid Henderson and Mike Edwards each forcing fumbles. Senior Farrington Huguenin had a career-high 10 tackles, with junior Jason Hatcher notching a pair of tackles for a loss in an eight-tackle effort. Offensively, sophomore Boom Williams returned to the field after missing the previous game due to injury. Williams rushed 13 times for 115 yards, including a 66-yard carry in the second half. The quarterback combo of Drew Barker and Patrick Towles completed 15 passes for 127 yards.

Cat Scratches: Cats Look to Parlay Passion into Win vs. Charlotte

Mark Stoops is doing plenty of self-evaluation.
He’s thinking hard about his in-game decisions. He’s taking a close look at the way he communicates with his coaching staff. Play calls on both sides of the ball have been subject to review.
But the overall plan and vision for Kentucky football – the ones Stoops pitched in his initial interview almost exactly three years ago – remain exactly the same in the midst of a five-game losing streak…Read More

Scouting the 49ers

• The Charlotte 49ers are in a debut season in Conference USA after beginning its football program in 2013.
• The 49ers spent two seasons as an FCS independent program, before stepping into the FBS for the 2015 season.
• Charlotte is coached by Brad Lambert, who has helped build the 49ers from scratch. Hired in 2011, Lambert has build the program from the ground up, recruiting its first players, designing a stadium, hiring a staff and building a fan base.
• The 49ers have averaged 19.3 points per game, totaling 168.4 rushing yards and 184.4 passing yards per game. Charlotte opponents have averaged 35 points per game, 155.8 rushing yards and 249.3 passing yards.
• A trio of quarterbacks have accumulated 1,844 passing yards and 10 TDs on the year, with Lee McNeill playing in all 10 games, Matt Johnson throwing for a team-high six TDs, and Brooks Barden throwing for 320 yards and three TDs in five games.
• TB Kalif Phillips has rushed 189 times for 961 yards, a 5.1 yards per carry average, with five TDs and 96.1 yards per game.
• WR Austin Duke leads the club with 47 catches for 527 yards and five TDs. Trent Bostick has 25 catches for 347 yards and two TDs, with T.L. Ford II grabbing 20 catches for 193 yards.
• The 49ers have nine interceptions on the year and defensively Larry Ogunjobi, Chris Layton-Molby and Nick Cook are tied for the team lead with 52 tackles. Ogunjobi has 13.5 tackles for a loss.

“Firsts” Under Stoops

• Kentucky has experienced several “firsts” this season to boast about:

• The win over South Carolina marked UK’s first road win since a 2010 win at Louisville, snapping a 22-game losing skid.
• The USC win was UK’s first SEC road win since defeating Georgia in 2009.
• UK’s win over Missouri marked its first win over a ranked opponent since upsetting South Carolina in 2010, snapping an 18-game losing streak to ranked teams.
• The win over No. 23/25 Missouri marked Stoops’ first win over a ranked opponent and snapped Missouri’s 11-game road winning streak, which was the third-longest active streak in the nation.
• The win over No. 23/25 Missouri marked UK’s first win over a defending SEC Eastern Division Champion since 2006 vs. Georgia.
• UK’s win over Eastern Kentucky marked the first overtime win in the Stoops era and tied for the largest fourth-quarter comeback (behind by 14) in school history.
