Hanna Carr Posts Nation-Leader, Pacing UK to 4676 at Nebraska

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Freshman Hanna Carr tied the best individual aggregate score by anyone in the country this season, 1186, to lead top-ranked Kentucky to a grinding 4676-4656 win at No. 8 Nebraska on Saturday.

The Wildcats got off to a challenging start on Saturday morning in their first long-distance road match of the year. Kentucky trailed after smallbore by a point, 2312-2311.

The Wildcats came back in air rifle and held on to win its third Great American Rifle Conference match of the year. The Wildcats are also unbeaten this season overall.

UK outscored Nebraska 2365-2333 in air rifle.

“It’s nice to win on the road in a conference match, but it was close throughout even though the difference at end might not show that,” UK head coach Harry Mullins said. “Nebraska is a good air rifle team so it was important for us to hold together in air rifle. We need more discipline in kneeling and prone. 

“We left a lot out there in smallbore. We can sit back and find excuses, but I think our focus wasn’t where we needed it to be to get the points in smallbore. It was a hard-fought match. Nebraska had a large crowd, which created a neat atmosphere. Hopefully we can make this a good learning experience.“

Carr shot 591 in smallbore, a score that ranks second in the nation this year, one point off the leader. Her 595 air rifle score is tied for the 13th best in the country this year. Sonya May shot 595 last weekend. She and Carr are tied for best air rifle score by a Wildcat this season.

Connor Davis shot 583 in smallbore, while Cathryn Papasodora shot 570. Sonya May and Heather Kirby totaled 567 each.

Three Wildcats shot 590 or better in air rifle as Kirby totaled 591 and May shot 590. Papasodora shot 589 and Davis posted a 588.

Kentucky will conclude the fall portion of the schedule next week by hosting Morehead State and Navy.
