No. 5 UK Rifle to Compete at NCAA Championships Preview
Lexington, Ky. – Kentucky will be one of four top-five teams to compete at Akron’s NCAA Preview Match, on Saturday at the Louis Frida Stile Athletics Field House.
Akron will provide live results, and admission will be free.
The rehearsal match will give teams a chance to shoot at the site of the 2016 NCAA Championships, which will take place March 9-12.
Eleven of the top 25 teams – No. 1 West Virginia, No. 2 Alaska, No. 4 Murray State, No. 5 Kentucky, No. 7 Ohio State, No. 8 Memphis, No. 12 NC State, No. 14 Akron and No. 16 Ole Miss – will participate in the rehearsal match.
“Should be one of the premier events of the year,” Mullins said. “We’ve got West Virginia, Alaska, Murray State and us on the same line. It’ll be four of the top-five teams in the country shooting at the same time in the same venue. We’re real excited about that. It’s nice to get back on the road to find our comfort zone as far as learning how to compete.”
Kentucky already has wins this season over No. 4 Murray State, No. 14 Akron and No. 16 Ole Miss.
Kentucky has a season-high of 4702, recorded at Murray State.
“We’ve been working hard the last couple of weeks,” Mullins said. “We came close to another score better than 4700 last match, and we’ll try to punch through the barrier this weekend. It would be a great accomplishment to come close to that or break through that mark knowing the atmosphere we’ll be competing in. It will be a great NCAA test.”
