LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky rifle team will begin the season ranked fourth in the country as the preseason Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association poll was released recently.
“We always feel honored when we receive enough votes to be in the top four,” UK head coach Harry Mullins said. “We have a good group of athletes this year that will work hard to live up to this honor .
Kentucky began last season ranked third, and finished sixth at the NCAA Championships.
“Looking at the overall field I think it is going to be one of the most competitive years for rifle nationwide,” Mullins said. “There are many great teams this year and I think there are going to be great scores shot.”
Kentucky returns multiple talented Wildcats to the 2015-16 squad led by All-Americans Connor Davis, Heather Kirby and Sonya May. This past summer, Davis won the Gold Medal in air rifle at the Pan American Games.
The Wildcats will also welcome multiple youthful talented newcomers this season including Hannah Carr and Cathryn Papasodora.
“Looking at training, we will need to strive to work hard these next few weeks to live up to this ranking,” Mullins said”
