Arin Gilliland Returning to Lexington for Kick-Cancer Match Sunday

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Current Chicago Red Star and former University of Kentucky women’s soccer All-American Arin Gilliland will be returning to Lexington for this weekend’s Kick-Cancer match against Butler on Sunday night at 6 p.m. ET.
Gilliland was a three-time All-American under head coach Jon Lipsitz at Kentucky from 2011-14 before being drafted No. 8 overall by the Chicago Red Stars in January’s 2015 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Draft. The Lexington, Ky., native started in 17 of the Red Stars’ 19 matches this season, tallying two assists as the left back and helping lead Chicago to its first-ever NWSL playoff appearance on Sunday.
Sunday will be Gilliland’s first appearance in Lexington since being drafted by the Red Stars.
The first 1,000 fans into the Bell Soccer Complex on Sunday will receive Arin Gilliland signing cards for her to sign after the match. In addition, kids can receive Arin Gilliland coloring cards that they can fill out during the match.
After the match, Gilliland will be participating in the annual Kick-Cancer Match postgame ceremony which Lipsitz will be speaking at, and flowers will be placed in the goal mouth.
Players will be wearing special Nike gold uniforms on Sunday to help raise awareness to fighting pediatric cancer, and those jerseys will be auctioned off after the match with all proceeds benefiting the fight against pediatric cancer on UKathletics.com.
Gilliland will also be recognized to a sellout crowd of more than 65,000 people during a timeout at the Kentucky vs. Florida football game at the New CWS on Saturday night.
