Chris Westry Tabbed SEC Freshman of the Week

LEXINGTON, Ky. — After a game-clinching interception late in the fourth quarter to lead Kentucky to its first win at South Carolina in 16 years, cornerback Chris Westry has been tabbed Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, it was announced by the league office.

A native of Orange Park, Fla., Westry’s big performance was highlighted by the interception to clinch the game – his first career pick off. The 6-foot-4 corner added his first career sack in the second quarter, forcing the Gamecocks to punt. In the third quarter, Westry had a pair of big plays, including a quarterback hurry to thwart a USC drive, and then recording a key pass breakup in the end zone on a fade route to force a field-goal attempt.

Kentucky (2-0) will return to action on Saturday, hosting Florida at 7:30 p.m. ET at The New Commonwealth Stadium. The game will be televised live on the SEC Network and will be broadcast on the UK Radio Network.
