Summer Notebook: Five Wildcats Earn All-Star Accolades

LEXINGTON, Ky. — A total of 20 Kentucky baseball standouts are playing collegiate summer leagues, with five earning all-star accolades, including Justin Lewis, Zach Logue, Riley Mahan, Storm Wilson and Robert Zeigler.

Marcus Carson, So., OF – Northwoods League (St. Cloud)
Summer: Hitting .273 (6-for-22) with five runs and a double, driving in five runs and drawing three walks in nine games … Has stolen a base and struck out once … In his last game on July 19, went 3-for-4 with three RBI … Has been hit by three pitches.

Ryne Combs, Jr., LHP – Valley League (Aldie)
Summer: Sports a 1-4 record and a 5.02 ERA in seven games and six starts … Has hurled 28.2 innings, allowing 28 hits and 23 walks, striking out 17 … Worked six innings and allowed one earned run on two hits and three walks in a win on June 25.

Dylan Dwyer, Jr., LHP – Northwoods League (Wisconsin)
Summer: Has appeared in eight games with seven starts, owning a 3-4 record with a 4.97 ERA … Has tossed 38 innings, issuing 14 walks and striking out 38 … Worked 8.2 shutout innings in a start on July 1.

Marshall Gei, Fr., C/IF – Florida Collegiate League (Brockton)
Summer: Has hit .380 (19-for-50) with five runs, one double, four RBI and one steal … Has had three consecutive multi-hit games, including back-to-back three-hit outings on July 17, 19 … Teamed with Blake Oyler on the Rox.

Dorian Hairston, Jr., OF – Costal Plains League (Martinsville)
Summer: Has a .250 (27-for-108) average in 34 games and 29 starts … Has scored 21 runs, ripping three doubles, three homers and driving in 18 runs … Has a .367 on-base percentage and has stolen 10-of-11 bases … Owns 16 walks and 23 strikeouts … has charted three outfield assists.

Connor Heady, So., SS – Northwoods League (Wisconsin)
Summer: Has hit .220 (24-for-109) in 34 games, scoring 13 runs and ripping six doubles and a triple … Has five RBI and a 9-32 walk-strikeout ratio … Has stolen three bases.

Justin Lewis, Fr., RHP – Perfect Game Collegiate League (Elmira)

  • PGCBL All-Star (RHP)

Summer: Is having a breakout summer in the PGCBL, owning a 4-0 record and a 1.44 ERA in seven games and six starts … Has tossed 43.2 innings, allowing just 30 hits and eight walks, striking out 27 … Has worked consecutive starts without an earned run, spanning 13.2 innings, allowing just seven hits … Has held opponents to a .195 average … Has worked six consecutive quality starts after working five innings in relief in his first outing of the summer.

Zach Logue, Fr., LHP – Perfect Game Collegiate League (Amsterdam)

  • PGCBL All-Star (LHP)

Summer: Is dominating the PGCBL with a 7-0 record and a 2.20 ERA in his eight starts … Has worked 45 innings, striking out 45, while allowing just 11 walks and 34 hits … Has allowed six runs over his last five starts … Fanned 10 in a six-inning win on July 8, allowing just a run.

Riley Mahan, Fr., IF – Perfect Game Collegiate League (Amsterdam)

  • PGCBL All-Star (SS)

Summer: The starting shortstop and leadoff hitter in the PGCBL All-Star Game … Has hit .290 (38-for-131) with 31 runs, eight doubles, three homers and 18 RBI … Has a 23-23 walk-strikeout ratio, stealing 12-of-13 bases … Had a two-homer game on July 15, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored … Has three three-hit games.

Blake Oyler, R-Jr., RHP – Florida Collegiate League (Brockton)
Summer: Appeared in nine games with three starts, totaling a 2-2 record and a 3.71 ERA … Has tossed 26.2 innings, walking 11 and allowing 24 hits, striking out 16 … Worked a summer-long 4.2 innings, allowing two runs, on July 19 … Struck out four in three shutout innings on June 26.

Zach Pop, Fr., RHP – Northwoods League (St. Cloud)
Summer: Owns a 3-2 record and a 2.60 ERA in seven starts … Has tossed 38 innings, allowing 13 walks and 29 hits, striking out 31 … Has worked two consecutive shutout innings … Has quality starts in three games, including 7.1 innings, allowing just two runs, on July 1, fanning eight.

Jared Proctor, Fr., LHP – Perfect Game Collegiate League (Elmira)
Summer: Has a 1-4 record and a 5.26 ERA in nine games and eight starts … Has worked 41 innings, striking out 41, walking 30 and allowing 40 hits … Worked five shutout innings in a win on July 7, allowing just three hits and four walks.

Logan Salow, So., LHP – Cape Cod League (Hyannis)
Summer: In nine games in relief, has a 3.29 ERA in 13.2 innings, walking 10 and allowing 13 hits, striking out 11 … Worked three one-run innings on July 19, allowing two hits and four walks, striking out five … Worked 3.1 innings without an earned run on July 8.

Brad Schaenzer, Fr., LHP – Perfect Game Collegiate League (Amsterdam)
Summer: Having a strong summer on the Mohawks, owning a 4-0 record and a 2.45 ERA in eight starts … Has hurled 44 innings, allowing 20 walks and 32 hits, striking out 29 … Worked seven shutout innings in a win on July 6, allowing just a walk and three hits … Has not allowed more than three runs in his starts.

JaVon Shelby, So., IF/OF – Cape Cod League (Hyannis)
Summer: Batting .256 (22-for-86) with 11 runs, six doubles, one homer and seven RBI in 23 games … Has drawn seven walks and struck out 21 times … Last game came on July 7 at Harwich … Has a pair of three-hit games, including a 3-for-5 game with two doubles in his CCBL debut on June 9.

Troy Squires, R-Fr., C/IF – Perfect Game Collegiate League (Elmira)
Summer: Is hitting .233 (20-for-86) in 23 games, with 10 runs, three doubles, 11 RBI and a 7-9 walk-strikeout ratio … Has five two-hit games.

Zach Strecker, R-Jr., RHP – Northwoods League (Wilmar)
Summer: Has totaled a 4-2 record and a 2.50 ERA in seven games and six starts … Has tossed 36 innings, allowing 31 hits and 20 walks, striking out 21 … Has worked four quality starts, allowing less than two runs in each outing … Is teamed with Storm Wilson on the Stingers.

Bo Wilson, R-Jr., RHP – Valley League (Aldie)
Summer: Has posted a 2-0 record and a 5.68 ERA in 11 games, totaling five saves … Has worked 12.2 innings, allowing 15 hits and three walks, striking out five … Worked a three-inning save on June 25.

Storm Wilson, R-So., OF – Northwoods League (Wilmar)

  • Northwoods League All-Star (OF)

Summer: Has hit .294 (35-for-119) with 21 runs scored, five doubles, one triple and three homers, driving in 19 runs … Owns a positive walk-strikeout ratio (20-19) … Has stolen 18-of-22 bases … Ranks 27th in the Northwoods League in average and fifth in steals … Is teamed with Zach Strecker on the Stingers.

Robert Zeigler, So., RHP – Northwoods League (Wisconsin)

  • Northwoods League All-Star (RHP)

Summer: Owns a 1-1 record and a 1.86 ERA in 16 games and two starts … Has saved seven games … In 19.1 innings, has allowed only 11 hits and 16 walks, striking out 33 … Worked a shutout inning in the All-Star for the South Division in the All-Star game … Season-long outing came in three shutout innings on July 11, striking out five … Tied for sixth in the league in saves.
