LEXINGTON, Ky. – Another day, another watch list for a member of the 2015 Kentucky football team as junior center Jon Toth was named to the 2015 Rimington Trophy Fall Watch List on Wednesday, the trophy’s selection committee announced.
The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the Most Outstanding Center in NCAA Division I-A College Football. Dave Rimington, the award’s namesake, was a consensus first-team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the John Outland Trophy’s only double winner as the nation’s finest college interior lineman.
The Rimington Trophy is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA), which encompasses the most prestigious awards in college football. The selection committee will announce its finalists for the award on Dec. 7, 2015. For more on the Rimington Trophy and a list of past recipients, visit www.rimingtontrophy.com.
Toth is one of 63 centers named to the fall watch list, including one of eight from the Southeastern Conference. Joining Toth on the list from the SEC is Ryan Kelly of Alabama, Mitch Smothers of Arkansas, Ethan Pocic of LSU, Evan Boehm of Missouri, Alan Knott of South Carolina, Mike Matthews of Texas A&M and Spencer Pulley of Vanderbilt.

Toth, a native of Indianapolis and one of four returning starters on the offensive line, will enter his junior campaign with 23 consecutive starts under his belt. Last season he started in all 12 games and was named the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week after UK’s season-opening win over Miami (Ohio), helping the Wildcats roll up 59 points and 656 yards. The 656 yards were the fourth-highest single-game mark in school history.
With Toth’s help, UK improved from 20 points per game in 2013 to 29 ppg in 2014. He also helped quarterback Patrick Towles account for more than 3,000 yards of total offense last season – joining Tim Couch, Dusty Bonner and Jared Lorenzen as the only players in school history to top the 3,000-yard mark in their first season as a starter.
As a freshman, Toth was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team by league coaches after helping three different UK players rush for 400-plus yards. Earlier this summer, Toth was named to Phil Steele’s 2015 Preseason All-SEC fourth team.
