LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky football great Jacob Tamme, who has been a star in the National Football League since his rookie year in 2008, has been selected as a 2015 inductee into the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame and will be honored Friday night during the organization’s induction ceremony in Louisville, Ky.
This weekend is the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame’s 12th Anniversary Celebration where the organization will induct four former NFL stars with ties to the Commonwealth, including Tamme. Also being inducted will be former EKU defensive end/linebacker Aaron Jones, the late Louisville linebacker Doug Buffone, the late Murray State defensive lineman Gil Mains and Blanton Collier Award winner Nick Saban. The induction ceremony will take place at Brown Theatre in Louisville, Ky., beginning at 7 p.m. ET. Tickets for the induction ceremony are available online at www.kyprofootballhof.org.
Tamme started 37-of-48 games played during his time at Kentucky and finished his career ranked first in school history among pass-catching tight ends and second in Southeastern Conference history among tight ends with 133 receptions for 1,417 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was named a first-team All-SEC selection following his final two seasons for the Wildcats to become the first tight end in school history to earn the honor twice in his career.
As a senior, he had 56 receptions for 619 yards and six touchdowns and earned his second consecutive first-team All-SEC honors from both the Associated Press and league coaches.
Tamme was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the fourth round and 127th overall of the 2008 NFL Draft. He later joined the Denver Broncos as an unrestricted free agent in 2012. He is a seventh-year tight end who has totaled 178 receptions for 1,703 yards with 10 touchdowns in 107 career games with Indianapolis and Denver. He was ranked third on the Broncos in both catches and receiving yards in his first year with the club in 2012. He recorded a career-high 67 catches for 631 yards and four scores in 2010 – all in the last 10 games after starting tight end Dallas Clark was placed on injured reserve – with his reception total leading the NFL during that stretch. Tamme owns 29 career special-teams tackles, including a career-best 13 stops in 2009 that ranked fourth on the Colts.
Currently, Tamme is a member of the Atlanta Falcons after signing as a free agent in March.
In addition to the Hall of Fame inductees, the organization also will recognize the 2015 All-Commonwealth Team, which is comprised of standouts from the football-playing colleges in Kentucky. Three Wildcats, quarterback Patrick Towles, offensive center Jon Toth and defensive back A.J. Stamps, were selected for this year’s honor squad.
