LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team has announced the addition of All-American midfielder Katy Keen, who will join Kentucky as a sophomore and be eligible immediately. Keen comes to Kentucky from Penn State, after appearing in 22 games for the Nittany Lions.

Keen, from Zionsville, Ind., had two assists in her only year in State College last season, including one in the NCAA College Cup Sweet 16 against Virginia Tech. Keen logged over 700 minutes on the pitch for Penn State with a season-high 76 coming against Michigan on Oct. 16. She also logged 10 shots for PSU.

Keen has a long and distinguished club career, having been named an All-American, a part of the Olympic Development Program Region II Team since 2010 and has also trained with the United States Women’s National Team in 2013. Under head coach Rory Dames, who is currently the head coach of the National Women’s Soccer League’s Chicago Red Stars, she helped lead the Carmel United to the U-15 National Championship. She has also been a part of the U-18 USWNT player pool in her young career.

In addition to her club accomplishments with Carmel United, Keen was named First Team All-Region and All-Conference in 2011 for her high school team, Zionsville. While playing for her high school, she scored 16 goals and tallied 13 assists for a career point total of 45 points. She led her high school in goals and assists for the 2013 season, earning Hoosier Crossroads All-Conference, Indiana Soccer Coaches All-District and Top Team Player laurels. She also was the 2013 Zionsville Invitational All-Tournament MVP and Zionsville Lady Eagles MVP.

Keen is the second transfer of the offseason for head coach Jon Lipsitz, who also announced the addition of Mexican National Team starter, Tanya Samarzich, last month.
